The Lawdragon Process

The Lawdragon selection process has been created over 35 years of researching and reporting on the legal profession and creating guides to the most effective legal professionals. Our team brings more than 100 years in the lawyer reporting and information business.

The foundation of our selection is in journalism. We research each guide extensively, studying which lawyers and law practices have had significant impact, including an emphasis on recent matters handled. We accept submissions and review them alongside thousands of candidates we identify and consider for each guide. We also work with editorial advisors in each substantive area to develop the focus of the guide and identify qualified talent.

For the Lawdragon 500 Leading Global IP Lawyers we are seeking an interdisciplinary group leading the way on patent drafting and prosecution; post-grant proceedings; strategic IP portfolio development; technology transactions, transfer, licensing, litigation and due diligence. We are seeking the global leaders of this practice, who are key to companies’ IP strategies and trade.

This is the inaugural version of this guide; in our experience, the guide will come to be defined as much by submissions as by any preconceived editorial notions. So we encourage you to help us define this guide with those lawyers around the globe who astound you with their depth of knowledge and range of engagements in the wonderful world of IP.

To make a Lawdragon guide, a lawyer will typically have been in practice 10 years. However, 500 Global IP Lawyers is among those handful of guides where more junior lawyers are moving to the fore with greater speed and we are eager to identify and recognize the true standouts. Virtually all will be partners in their law practice or hold a designation that indicates the regard of those with whom they practice. Leadership within their practice in a firm and or in relevant bar organizations is considered.

We publish a range of ‘related’ guides in this area, including: The Lawdragon 500 Leading Global Entertainment, Sports & Media Lawyers; The Lawdragon 100 Leading AI & Legal Tech Advisors; and The Lawdragon 500 Leading Global Cyber Lawyers. We anticipate a number of lawyers will cross the boundaries of our guides, and intend that the specific focus on IP will provide a home for those advisors essential to guiding businesses of all types on how to develop, capitalize on and protect their intellectual property, whether they are in technology, retail, energy or medical devices.

Lawdragon is an advocate for inclusion in the legal profession and searches extensively for female, minority, military veteran, LGBTQ+ and others who bring to the law a range of perspectives and experiences.

Thank you for your interest in Lawdragon.
