The Lawdragon Process

The Lawdragon selection process has been created over 35 years of researching and reporting on the legal profession and creating guides to the most effective legal professionals. Our team brings more than 100 years in the lawyer reporting and information business.

The foundation of our selection is in journalism. We research each guide extensively, studying which lawyers and law practices have had significant impact, including an emphasis on recent matters handled. We accept submissions and review them alongside thousands of candidates we identify and consider for each guide. We also work with editorial advisors in each substantive area to develop the focus of the guide and identify talent.

Selection for The Lawdragon 500 Leading Global Real Estate Lawyers will begin with lawyers who have shown outstanding skills in real estate-related practices for at least 15 years, with extremely rare exceptions. Similarly, virtually all will be partners in their law practice or hold a designation that indicates the regard of those with whom they practice. Leadership within their practice in a firm and or in relevant bar organizations is considered.

This will be our inaugural edition of the Real Estate 500, and we invite your thoughts on what comprises a leading global real estate lawyer. You can submit those to katrina@lawdragon.com. We anticipate this guide will focus heavily on lawyers who are behind real estate developments worldwide – from towering skyscrapers and river parks to badly needed housing developments in challenging environments. We are interested in the construction lawyers who facilitate these developments and the real estate litigators turned to when things go south. Naturally, we encourage submissions on specialists in REITs as well as other real estate financiers working to turn around the fate of so many urban buildings. The intersection of real estate and environmental lawyers is covered, in part, in our Green 500. However, please feel free to submit lawyers in that area, as we look to define the current state of lawyering in the land of real estate.

Lawdragon is proudly inclusive and searches for qualified women, minority, LGBTQ+ and other attorneys who may lend an additional perspective to the world of real estate law.
