George C. Kern Jr., a leading dealmaker at Sullivan & Cromwell, has died at 86, according to the New York Times. He founded the firm's M&A practice, now one of the world's elite dealmaking forces.
In 1984, he worked on a deal that was to that time the largest in the U.S., helping Gulf Oil fend off T. Boone Pickens to merge with Chevron.
