New York – March 21, 2012 – Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP (MS&K), one of the premier business and entertainment law firms in the U.S., today announced that Gerald T. Hathaway has joined the firm as a partner in the New York office.

Hathaway comes to MS&K from labor and employment firm Littler Mendelson, where he was a partner in the New York office and co-chair of the firm’s Business Restructuring Practice Group.

“Jerry is an accomplished labor and employment lawyer who has worked on behalf of management exclusively since 1979,” said William L. Cole, co-chair of MS&K’s Labor & Employment Practice. “In that time, he has developed expertise advising multi-national corporations regarding the labor and employment issues that apply to local, national and international corporate transactions and financial restructuring. He is an important addition to our national practice group and expands our Labor & Employment group presence to the East Coast.”

Hathaway has a wide range of experience and has worked with clients in a diverse array of industries including: advertising; banking; entertainment – film, television and theater; finance; healthcare; hospitality; newspaper; private equity; and transportation. A frequent speaker on labor and employment topics, he has also authored several articles and contributed to treatises on labor and employment issues, including obligations to unions in the context of mergers and acquisitions and the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, with which he has particular expertise.

Hathaway earned his undergraduate degree at La Salle University and his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.

“MS&K has a very well-respected labor and employment law department, with more than 25 attorneys spending 100 percent of their time as full-service management-side employment counsel, providing both traditional labor law and employment law services,” said Hathaway. “I am delighted to join this team in its growing New York office and collaborate with my new partners in counseling our clients on how to avoid employment grievances, engage in collective bargaining, resolve contentious litigation, manage workforce reduction challenges, and deal with other important labor and employment law matters.”

“Jerry’s experience in the corporate sector, as well as in the entertainment industry, is a natural extension of the diverse and growing practice in MS&K’s New York office,” said Jane Stevens, MS&K New York Office Managing Partner.  “We welcome the addition of a seasoned labor and employment partner of Jerry’s caliber to augment the firm’s nationally recognized Labor & Employment group.”

MS&K was founded in 1908 in Los Angeles. The firm opened its New York office in 2008, which now employs 11 attorneys including eight partners.
