WASHINGTON, D.C., April 10, 2012 - U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder presented the Department of Justice’s John Sherman Award to Baker Botts Senior Counsel James F. Rill today in recognition of Rill’s contributions to "the protection of American consumers, the preservation of economic liberty and the advancement of global competition policy."

The presentation ceremony was held in The Great Hall of the Robert F. Kennedy Main Justice Building in Washington, D.C.

Prior to accepting the Sherman Award, Rill took a few minutes to reflect on the DOJ recognition, thank the people who he worked alongside during his years in government service and offer advice to young lawyers.

"Throughout his career, Jim Rill has helped to shape antitrust laws nationally and internationally," said Baker Botts Managing Partner Andrew M. Baker. "Jim’s work both in service to the government and in private practice has been groundbreaking."

Rill said he is honored by the DOJ’s decision to recognize his career, but he is quick to acknowledge the extensive support of colleagues throughout his body of work.

"Whatever I have accomplished could not have been accomplished alone," Rill said. "This has been a wonderfully rich experience, filled with high-level and dedicated people whom I have had the privilege and pleasure to work with throughout my career. Any accomplishments I have achieved have been reached with the participation and help of numerous other people who have at least as much as I have to do with these accomplishments."
