WASHINGTON D.C. (June 4, 2012)Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP (“Nelson  Mullins”) announced today that David Main will join the Firm’s National Healthcare Practice Group in Washington D.C. With a background in both government and private practice, Mr. Main will focus on advising national and global healthcare companies on a range of regulatory, public policy, and corporate transactional issues.  In addition, he will continue advising health technology and biotech/life sciences companies on formation and development issues. He also will advise clients on product distribution and intellectual property matters for medical devices and information technology.

Mr. Main’s addition follows the recent launch of the Firm’s Nashville office and increases the experience in Nelson Mullins’ healthcare practice, which is currently ranked third in the nation based on membership in the American Health Lawyers Association. In his new role, he will assist healthcare clients with the challenges presented by the healthcare reform movement, including physician and hospital integration, adoption of medical technology, data analysis, and reimbursement reforms.

Prior to joining Nelson Mullins, Mr. Main served as the chair of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP’s healthcare practice. Mr. Main also served as counsel to the United States Senate Subcommittee on Health and Scientific Research, where he was the primary author of the Health Maintenance Organization Act Amendments of 1978. In 1982, he served on the Secretary of Health and Human Services' Task Force on Health Care Reform.

Mr. Main also serves as counsel to the Health Management Academy, an open environment for the executive suite of the nation’s leading health systems and corporations to discuss best practices and focus on increasing the quality, appropriateness, and efficiency of care.
