WILMINGTON, DE. (November 28, 2012) Glen P. Trudel, an attorney known for his work on financial services and banking regulatory matters, has joined Ballard Spahr as a partner in Delaware, firm Chair Mark S. Stewart announced today.

Mr. Trudel’s arrival expands the firm’s already formidable consumer financial services and banking regulatory capabilities into one of the nation’s important banking centers. Mr. Trudel has significant experience in the acquisition and divestiture of credit card and other financial portfolios. He also advises state and federal banking entities on formation and licensing issues in Delaware and on operational and outsourcing matters.

“Glen brings so many good things to Ballard and to our Delaware office,” Mr. Stewart said. “He will add an important dimension—credit card transactional work—to our nationally recognized Consumer Financial Services practice. And his corporate skills will be a welcome addition to our practice in Delaware, where Glen is well known and well regarded.”

Mr. Trudel joins Ballard Spahr from the Wilmington office of Connolly Bove Lodge & Hutz LLP, where he was a partner. He is a former Senior Vice President and Counsel at MBNA America, N.A. – Bank of America, where his work focused on affinity and joint marketing agreements, credit card portfolio acquisitions, and federal and state regulatory matters.

“We have been looking for many years to add an experienced banking and consumer financial services attorney to our Wilmington office because many of our clients are located there,” said Alan S. Kaplinsky, who leads the firm’s Consumer Financial Services Group. “We hit pay dirt with Glen. He has a wealth of experience in all areas of consumer financial services law, most notably credit, debit, and prepaid cards. He’s a terrific addition.”

In addition to his role in the Consumer Financial Services Group, Mr. Trudel will be a member of Ballard Spahr’s Bank Regulation and Supervision Group and its Transactional Finance Group. The firm’s Consumer Financial Services Group represents clients in regulatory matters, the design and documentation of credit products, and lawsuits and enforcement proceedings. The group pioneered the use of pre-dispute arbitration in consumer financial services contracts and regularly advises clients on Consumer Financial Protection Bureau compliance, supervision, and enforcement issues.

“My practice dovetails nicely with the strengths of the firm and the CFS Group, which has a national reputation as a leader in both the regulatory and litigation sides of consumer financial services issues,” said Mr. Trudel. “Ballard was looking to add capability in Delaware. I was looking for a national platform upon which to expand my practice. It was a perfect fit.”
