IRVINE, Calif., Dec. 17, 2012Tredway Lumsdaine & Doyle’s (TLD) Patrick (Rick) C. Quinlivan, with Marc E. Hankin of Hankin Patent Law, has obtained a favorable verdict for VGo Communications, a leading manufacturer of visual communications solutions for the hospital, home, school and workplace.  The important verdict concludes a patent infringement lawsuit brought by InTouch Health.  On Nov. 29, a jury found that VGo Communications did not infringe three patents owned by InTouch Health and also found claims in two of the patents submitted by InTouch to be invalid.

TLD’s Quinlivan, a seasoned trial attorney, was a valuable addition to VGo’s legal team, working in lockstep with Hankin in preparation for the trial and arguing the case in front of a jury. VGo’s lawyers were successful in proving that the VGo product did not perform as claimed by InTouch and that the VGo product did not infringe any of the patents or claims at issue.

“Rick has extensive trial experience and knows how to speak with a jury to get them to understand his client’s point of view,” said Hankin. “He brought credibility and gravitas to our trial team and was able to determine quickly and correctly what evidence to present in a way that simplified our very complicated case and ensured victory for our client.”

The InTouch and VGo products are robotic telepresence systems. The VGo product is unique in that it can be used in multiple applications including educational, healthcare and business, while the InTouch product is only for healthcare. The systems provide the ability for a user to visit a remote location through a mobile robot. The VGo robots are equipped with cameras, screens, microphones and speakers that enable the user to communicate with persons at the robot's location.  They can be driven around a facility by the user from the user's PC or laptop after downloading an app. The user's face can be shown on the robot's screen.

“We’re pleased with this favorable result and that VGo can continue offering its customers quality products at cost-competitive prices,” said Quinlivan.
