WASHINGTON, DC, January 8, 2013 — E. Donald Elliott, a leading environmental and administrative lawyer and scholar, has joined Covington & Burling, strengthening the firm’s top-ranked environmental and product liability practices.
Mr. Elliott has more than 30 years of experience in environmental law, administrative law and product liability and toxic torts. He served as general counsel of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and as national coordinating counsel in major environmental and product liability litigation for several companies.
“Don’s experience will be invaluable to the firm’s clients,” said Corinne Goldstein, co-chair of Covington’s environmental practice. “We are thrilled to have him as a colleague.”
“Don has addressed complex environmental issues successfully and brings to clients a wealth of experience with the government, as an in-house lawyer at a Fortune 50 company, as outside counsel, and as a leading scholar,” added Lawrence Hobel, co-chair of the group.
Covington’s environmental practice includes advice and representation in regulatory and legislative matters, litigation, and transactional work in the United States and abroad. The group’s practitioners, including Mr. Elliott, regularly receive top ratings from publications such as Chambers, Best Lawyers and Legal 500. Additionally, Mr. Elliott has been recognized as one of the country’s top 20 environmental lawyers by The National Law Journal.
Mr. Elliott said he was attracted by the caliber of Covington’s lawyers, including Theodore Garrett, who was recently named “Global Environmental Lawyer of the Year” for the eighth consecutive year by Who’s Who Legal.
“This is the opportunity of a lifetime for me to join one of the preeminent environmental practices in the U.S.,” he said. “I look forward to working with Covington’s amazing lawyers and to helping the firm’s clients on their environmental, corporate, regulatory and litigation matters.”
Mr. Elliott earned a bachelor’s degree summa cum laude from Yale University and a law degree from Yale Law School. He is an adjunct professor at Yale Law School, where he has taught since 1981.
