PALO ALTO, CA (May 1, 2013) – Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, the premier provider of legal services to technology, life sciences, and growth enterprises worldwide, today announced that it has hired Stuart M. Chemtob as Senior Of Counsel in the firm’s antitrust practice. Prior to joining the firm, Chemtob had served for more than 30 years in the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), most recently as Special Counsel for International Trade. “Stuart will be an outstanding addition to the firm’s global competition law practice, which already is widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost antitrust practices,” said Jack Sheridan, co-managing partner of the firm. “His extensive experience in the DOJ’s Antitrust Division and focus on the Pacific Rim will be of particular value to many of our clients who are based in Asia or interested in doing business in the region. We are delighted to welcome Stuart to the firm.”
Chemtob joined the DOJ in 1980 as a trial attorney, and then served as Special Counsel for International Trade from 1987 to 2012. From 1997 to 1999, he also served as a Mansfield Fellow in Japan, which included working in the Tokyo Prosecutor’s Office and with the Japan Fair Trade Commission. Earlier, he was an associate at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld in Washington, D.C., where his practice involved antitrust, intellectual property licensing, trade, and energy matters. Chemtob received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1978 and a B.A. in political science from the University of Michigan in 1975.
