LOS ANGELES, July 16, 2013: Morgan Lewis announced today that Daniel Grunfeld—an accomplished commercial litigator with deep public sector experience—has joined the firm as a partner in its Litigation Practice, resident in Los Angeles. Mr. Grunfeld will serve as leader of Morgan Lewis's West Coast Litigation Practice. He most recently served as co-managing partner of the Los Angeles and Palo Alto offices and as co-chair of the Los Angeles office litigation department of Kaye Scholer.
Just prior to his role at Kaye Scholer, Mr. Grunfeld served as a member of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's four person Executive Team-a position where he prioritized and implemented the mayor's policy agenda. Previously, he was President and CEO of Public Counsel, the nation's largest pro bono public interest law firm. Under his leadership, Public Counsel more than doubled in size and expanded its national and international reach.
"Dan's proven leadership in legal practice and in the public sector will be a valuable asset to the firm and our clients as we continue to build out our litigation capabilities in California and around the globe," said Firm Chair Francis M. Milone.
Mr. Grunfeld focuses his legal practice on commercial litigation and counsels clients in a variety of industries, including healthcare, entertainment, energy, hospitality, and civil rights. He also acts as an advisor and strategist to clients with regard to litigation, trial, and settlement issues and has served as lead counsel in high-profile litigation matters. Mr. Grunfeld dedicates a portion of his practice to the development of strategies and opportunities in the areas of life sciences, green technology and alternative energy, and nonprofits.
"Dan's well developed litigation skills coupled with his experience as a high-level advisor to law firms and agencies on litigation, trial and settlement issues, will prove invaluable to our commercial litigation clients and to his new colleagues," said Jami McKeon, Leader of the firm's Litigation Practice. "Our clients will benefit from the courtroom savvy that Dan has developed serving as lead counsel on impactful, high-profile litigation matters."
"We are excited to welcome Dan to the Los Angeles office. He is well-known and highly regarded throughout California and in professional circles and makes an excellent addition to our team," noted David Schrader, Managing Partner of the firm's Los Angeles office.
Mr. Grunfeld joins a team of nearly 700 litigators working from 20 offices around the world. The firm's deep bench of trial lawyers, armed with extensive skills in alternative dispute resolution and combined with its technology-savvy discovery teams, work to guard clients' short-term and long-term interests inside and outside of the courtroom. In one representative three-year period the firm litigated some 10,000 cases and took cases to trial in every major U.S. jurisdiction, as well as in the United Kingdom and Europe.
