Boston, MA – August 2, 2013 – Cooley LLP announced today that it has strengthened its national patent counseling and prosecution capability with the admission of Joseph Teja, Jr. as a partner. Teja joins Cooley from Foley & Lardner where he was a partner in that firm’s electronics and green energy technologies practices and a member of its emerging technologies industry team. He will be resident in Cooley’s Boston office.
“The addition of Joe to the firm is not just a wonderful development for Cooley's thriving intellectual property practice, but is also another step in the continuing growth of Cooley’s Boston office,” said Al Browne, partner‐in‐charge of Cooley's Boston office. "Joe’s IP expertise in the areas of electrical engineering and computing will position him as a key resource to many of our technology clients, both those in the greater New England region, as well as across the firm.”
Teja has significant experience counseling clients with extensive and complex patent portfolios in regard to their overall IP protection strategies. His patent practice is focused primarily in the areas of electrical engineering, computer science, physics and clean energy. He represents clients in a variety of technical areas, including digital image sensors, solar energy‐related technologies (photovoltaics), flexible electronics, biomedical imaging, telecommunications business methods, complex event processing, GPS‐based intelligent instrumentation, energy demand management and energy‐efficient lighting technologies. Teja also has significant experience working with academic institutions in regard to the protection of their IP assets.
“Joe is a seasoned and highly regarded IP practitioner who will be a valuable addition to our team,” said Jim Brogan, chair of Cooley's national IP practice. “His extensive experience assisting clients in the strategic development and protection of their IP portfolios, coupled with his broad technical background, will undoubtedly strengthen our IP practice.”
Cooley’s IP litigation practice group is consistently recognized as a national leader for its innovative strategies in patent, copyright and trademark legal services. For the second year running, the National Law Journal named Cooley to its elite “IP Hot List” in 2013.
“When I think of top IP law firms, Cooley is among the small group of nationally elite firms. I am thrilled to be joining a firm and practice of such high regard, and I am energized about the opportunities to grow my practice and to contribute to the existing team of first rate IP practitioners,” said Teja. Teja received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Rutgers University; his BA in Italian Literature also from Rutgers University; his JD from Suffolk University Law School, and his MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
