WASHINGTON, D.C. – Jan. 6, 2014 – Roetzel is pleased to announce that Nicole Hughes Waid, a former chief of the Fort Myers Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, has joined the firm as a partner in the White Collar Litigation & Corporate Compliance Practice Group.
Ms. Waid brings to the firm more than a decade of experience prosecuting cases as a member of U.S. Attorney’s offices in Florida and Washington, D.C., particularly involving white collar fraud cases in the financial services and health care industries.
“We are thrilled to welcome Nicole to our firm,” said Jeffrey J. Casto, Roetzel’s Chairman and CEO. “Her experiences and insights on what the government perceives as fraud will help ensure that our clients receive the best possible representation and defense on these matters.”
Brian E. Dickerson, Manager of the firm’s White Collar Litigation & Corporate Compliance Practice Group, added, “The depth and breadth of Nicole’s experience on the prosecution side in matters involving financial fraud and health care fraud also will be invaluable for our clients in setting up compliance programs as well as navigating internal investigations.”
Ms. Waid said, “Through my experiences as a federal prosecutor, I understand that business compliance is the wave of the future. Top executives are getting prosecuted and companies are losing billions of dollars over infractions that could have been prevented through an efficient compliance program.”
As chief of the Fort Myers Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ms. Waid directed teams investigating complex white collar fraud cases, including bank, mortgage and health care fraud, as well as public corruption and Ponzi schemes. Previously, Ms. Waid was a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, where she was assigned to the National Security Section, prosecuting cases involving terrorism and national security. Ms. Waid also prosecuted violent crimes and narcotics cases and supervised staffs of attorneys as chief of the General Crimes Section and deputy chief of the Grand Jury/Intake Section. In addition, Ms. Waid formerly prosecuted housing code violations, illegal business operations and other high profile cases for the Mayor of the District of Columbia.
Ms. Waid is the recipient of numerous accolades including the Counsel of the Inspector General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE) 2012 Award for Excellence and other U.S. Attorney’s Office Special Achievement Awards while serving as a federal prosecutor.
Ms. Waid earned her J.D. from the Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America. She also has a B.A. from Villanova University.
