January 29, 2014 – Blank Rome LLP is pleased to announce that Leslie D. Corwin is joining the Firm as a partner on February 1, 2014. Mr. Corwin brings significant experience in partnership law, with a special focus on business ruptures, to the Firm. He will practice in Blank Rome’s corporate litigation group, and will be based in the Firm’s New York office.
“Les has handled more partnership disputes for law firms and accounting firms than any other lawyer, and we are thrilled that he is bringing his unique practice to Blank Rome,” said Alan J. Hoffman, Chairman and Managing Partner. “While Les will be based in our New York office, he will also have a significant presence in our California and Florida offices, where he has clients and extensive litigation experience. We look forward to his many contributions as we continue to grow in existing and new markets.”
Mr. Corwin joins Blank Rome from Greenberg Traurig where he had served as a Principal Shareholder since 1998. He represents international and national law firms and accounting firms, broker-dealers, investment banks, hedge funds, and real estate developers in disputes, mergers and acquisitions, liquidations, dissolutions, and bankruptcies.
He is skilled in the full range of valuation, accounting, and ethical issues that typically arise in business ruptures, and has acted on behalf of many of the largest law firm dissolutions, including WolfBlock, Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, and Heller Ehrman. He has also litigated issues of first impression and testified as an Expert Witness. His practice includes elements of securities, employment law, ERISA, real estate, and bankruptcy law. His 1998 book, Law Firm Partnership Agreements, written with Arthur Ciampi, is considered the definitive work on the subject. He is a member of the Committee on Character and Fitness in New York and of the American Law Institute.
Prior to Greenberg Traurig, Mr. Corwin was a Founding Partner of Morrison Cohen. While there, Mr. Corwin litigated the landmark case Dawson v. White & Case, 88 N.Y. 2d 666, 649 N.Y.S. 2d 364 (1996), which established good will as a law firm asset and led to legislation allowing for the sale of legal practices in New York State.
“I am impressed with Blank Rome’s strategic direction and look forward to joining the Firm at such an exciting time,” said Mr. Corwin. “With a large and unique practice, I am confident that Blank Rome’s platform will be ideal for my clients and me and provide us with the opportunity to grow.”
