Covington's Cooper Confirmed as Federal Judge

WASHINGTON, DC, March 26, 2014  — The U.S. Senate today confirmed Covington & Burling partner Christopher “Casey” Cooper to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Mr. Cooper was approved by an unanimous vote.

“We are very proud that President Obama nominated Casey for a federal judgeship and that the Senate has now confirmed his nomination. We know that he will be an outstanding judge, given his keen intellect, sound judgment, and commitment to justice,” said Timothy Hester, chair of the firm’s management committee. “We offer Casey our congratulations and best wishes as he undertakes this important public service.”

“I am honored to have been confirmed by the Senate and to be joining such an excellent and respected bench,” Mr. Cooper said.

Mr. Cooper, who worked in the firm’s London and Washington offices, was a member of the global white-collar and anti-corruption practices. Mr. Cooper began his career as a law clerk to then-Chief Judge Abner J. Mikva of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. He also served in the Office of the Deputy Attorney General at the Justice Department before moving into private practice.

Mr. Cooper said that his time at Covington was an invaluable part of his career. “I have always admired the work that Covington does, the quality of the lawyering, its reputation for integrity, and its commitment to pro bono and to the D.C. community,” Mr. Cooper said.
