Thompson & Knight Hires Oil and Gas Attorney

Houston (March 26, 2014) – The law firm of Thompson & Knight LLP is pleased to announce that David W. Cias has joined the Firm’s Houston office as an Attorney in the Oil and Gas Practice Group.

Cias focuses his practice on oil and gas matters. He received a J.D., cum laude, from SMU Dedman School of Law in 2013, a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in 2000, and a B.A. from Hampden-Sydney College in 1997.

Prior to earning his law degree, he spent nearly a decade in the oil and gas industry working as an independent landman across Texas and North Dakota, where he represented E&P companies in numerous lease acquisitions; researched land titles from sovereignty; performed title curative; and served as a client representative on seismic surveys. As a petroleum landman, he has represented oil and gas companies in the Eagle Ford Shale, East Texas, the Lower Rio Grande Valley, coastal South Texas, West Texas, as well as the Bakken Formation. While attending law school, he worked for EnCana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc. as a contract land negotiator, managing producing assets in northern Louisiana’s Haynesville Shale.

He is a Certified Professional Landman and a member of the Dallas Association of Petroleum Landmen, the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators, and the Energy and Mineral Law Foundation. Cias’ admission to the State Bar of Texas is anticipated in Summer 2014.
