Philadelphia, July 9—Cozen O’Connor continues to strengthen its focus on health care with the recent hiring of R. Christopher Raphaely, who will serve as co-chair of the firm’s Health Care Practice Group. Previously Deputy General Counsel for the Jefferson Health System, and General Counsel to the system’s accountable care organization and captive professional liability insurance companies, Raphaely will be resident in the Philadelphia office.
“We are pleased to welcome Chris to our team at Cozen O’Connor. His unique insights, deep knowledge and first-hand experience as to the legal and business challenges facing health care institutions will be invaluable to our clients in the health care industry” said Mark H. Gallant, chair of the firm’s Health Care Practice Group. “As our clients across the country attempt to navigate the uncertain terrain of health care, we are actively expanding to meet those needs through the recent additions of Chris, Ryan Blaney who joined as a partner from Proskauer Rose, as well as Dana Petrillo and J. Nicole Martin, who joined as associates.”
At Jefferson Health System, Raphaely served as a legal advisor to the system’s Board of Trustees and executive team, and played key roles in Jefferson Health System’s largest and most complex transactions during his tenure. Prior to joining Jefferson Health System, Raphaely spent 16 years in private practice representing health care clients in a wide array of transactional and regulatory matters, the last seven as a partner in Duane Morris’s Health Law practice group.
Raphaely also is an adjunct professor at Widener University School of Law, where he teaches health care finance. He earned his J.D. from Temple University Beasley School of Law and his B.A. in economics from University of Pennsylvania.
“Health care considerations are looming large for businesses, as the legal, regulatory and business landscape changes rapidly, and Chris brings his practical experience in all these areas to the benefit of our clients” said Jeffrey A. Leonard, chair of the firm's Business Law Section.
I am thrilled to be joining Cozen O'Connor’s health care practice. As a former client, I’ve always been impressed with the firm’s responsiveness, practical advice and results-oriented approach. Health care organizations are being challenged to deliver demonstrable value like never before, and this firm and its health care practice group are perfectly suited to help them do so,” said Raphaely.
