Leading Litigation Lawyer Joins Sidley Austin

Chicago — Sidley Austin LLP announced today that Bruce R. Braun has joined as a partner in the firm’s global Litigation and Accountants/Professional Services Liability practices. Mr. Braun is widely recognized as a top litigator in Chicago and nationally for his extensive experience in high-profile, bet-the-company trials and appellate work.

Mr. Braun’s practice spans a wide range of subjects, including antitrust, professional liability, securities fraud, internal investigations, breach of contract, intellectual property and consumer fraud. His high-profile engagements have included serving as one of the lead trial lawyers defending a global computer software and hardware company in a landmark government antitrust case, representing an accounting firm in a high-stakes arbitration trial that spanned two and a half years, and representing a restaurant corporation in multiple high-profile matters, among them a groundbreaking childhood obesity class action. Mr. Braun represents numerous accounting firms in significant professional liability matters and has significant experience representing clients before regulatory agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission. He also has substantial appellate experience, including arguing landmark decisions before the Illinois Supreme Court and in the United States Courts of Appeals for the Seventh, Eighth and Eleventh Circuits.

Before joining Sidley, Mr. Braun was a partner with another international law firm where he served as the chair of its complex commercial litigation practice and was a member of its executive committee. Earlier in his career, Mr. Braun clerked for Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist of the United States Supreme Court. He also clerked for Judge Joel M. Flaum of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Mr. Braun was named by Benchmark Litigation to its elite group of Chicago’s “Litigation Stars” for 2015. He was recognized as one of Chambers USA’s Leading Lawyers for Business and is ranked in Chambers USA 2014 in Litigation. In addition, he was included in the inaugural edition of Chicago Lawyer’s “Top 40 Attorneys Under 40.” The American Lawyer selected him as one of its “45 Under Forty-Five: the Rising Stars of the Private Bar” and as a “Litigator In The Spotlight” for a series of high-profile victories. He is also recognized as one of BTI Consulting’s Client Service All-Stars and as one of the Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America.

Mr. Braun is active in the Chicago community, having served as a board member of CARPLS (Coordinated Advice & Referral Program for Legal Services), Cook County’s legal aid hotline. He is also a fellow and former board member of Leadership Greater Chicago. Previously, he was an adjunct professor of law in appellate practice at Northwestern University Law School and a lecturer at Loyola University Chicago Law.
