December 3, 2014 – DLA Piper announced today that Daniel Cooperman, former general counsel with Apple and Oracle, has joined the firm as of counsel.
Cooperman has a nearly 40-year career in law and business, most notably serving from 1997 until 2007 as senior vice president and general counsel at Oracle under Larry Ellison and from 2007 to 2010 as senior vice president and general counsel of Apple under Steve Jobs. With DLA Piper, he intends to continue to focus on issues related to corporate governance and boards of directors, as well as the role of the general counsel and management of global corporate law departments.
He also will continue to serve as a member of the board of directors of Molina Healthcare, Inc., a Fortune 500 managed care company, as well as several start-up companies. He serves as a strategic advisor to Institutional Venture Partners, a premier late-stage venture capital firm, and its portfolio companies.
Cooperman joins DLA Piper from Bingham McCutchen LLP. Before joining Oracle, Cooperman was chair of the Business and Transactions Group and managing partner of the San Jose office for McCutchen Doyle Brown & Enersen, which preceded the formation of Bingham McCutchen.
He is a fellow for the Arthur and Toni Rembe Rock Center for Corporate Governance at Stanford Law School and Graduate School of Business and chair of the board of directors of Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.
“Dan is one of those rare professionals who has deep business and legal experience working with both start-ups and some of the world’s most recognized tech brands,” said Ed Batts, co-chair of the firm’s Northern California Corporate and Finance practice. “His knowledge and capabilities in helping companies navigate business and legal challenges and growth on a global scale will be an important asset to our colleagues and our clients.”
Cooperman received his J.D. from Stanford Law School, his M.B.A. from Stanford University and his B.A. from Dartmouth College.
