MIAMI – December 8, 2014 – Miami-based litigation boutique Podhurst Orseck announces the addition of former Assistant U.S. Attorney Roy Altman, who will join the firm as a partner and assist with complicated class actions, mass torts and aviation matters. This represents the third lateral hire that Podhurst Orseck has made in its 48-year history and is a significant investment as the firm continues to cultivate its next generation leadership.

Altman comes to Podhurst Orseck from the U.S. Attorney’s office, where he served as Deputy Chief of Special Prosecutions.  There he oversaw the region’s high profile criminal matters, including human trafficking, sexual exploitation of children and federal violent crime.  Additionally, he served as the Violent Crime and Anti-Gang Coordinator for the Office.

“With the addition of Roy, it is clear that our firm’s future is as bright as its legacy,” said Podhurst Orseck Co-Managing Partner Steve Marks. “We are stronger than we have ever been before, and are handling some of the highest profile of cases in the country. Roy will be an incredible asset as we sustain this momentum over the coming decades ahead.”

Podhurst Orseck has built its reputation on attorney tenure as much as it has for its highly specialized practice. This move marks the third lateral partner hire that the firm has made since inception nearly 50 years ago – the first was legal legend Bob Josefsberg in 1982 and the second was former Holland & Knight National Litigation Chairman Peter Prieto in 2010.

“Podhurst Orseck is a true meritocracy that rewards hard work and results – so for a smart, hard-working young lawyer like Roy, the sky is the limit as to what he can achieve here,” said Podhurst Orseck Partner Peter Prieto. “Roy has excelled in every role he has assumed and we expect great things from him as we collectively embark on our next chapter.”

Through his six-year tenure at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Altman has garnered respect from virtually every rank within the justice system.  The Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police and the Law Enforcement Officers’ Charitable Foundation named him ‘Federal Prosecutor of the Year’ in January 2013.  He was also designated as a ‘Top Young Lawyer’ by the Federal Bar Association and granted the Department of Justice’s ‘Director’s Award’ for the successful prosecution of those responsible for the killing of U.S. postal worker Bruce Parton.

Altman graduated with honors from Columbia University and received his juris doctorate from Yale Law School, where he served as Projects Editor for the Yale Law Journal. After law school, Roy clerked for the Honorable Stanley Marcus on the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.

He is fluent in Spanish and conversant in Hebrew.
