LOS ANGELES, May 3, 2016 - Jenner & Block is pleased to announce that leading entertainment litigator Anthony M. Basich will join the firm's nationally recognized Content, Media & Entertainment (CME) Practice in the Los Angeles office. With more than 30 years of experience litigating and arbitrating entertainment-related and other complex commercial disputes, including a significant and recognized strength in profit participation, Mr. Basich will provide media and entertainment clients with the full-service coverage they expect from our best-in-class team.
Mr. Basich focuses on core media and entertainment industry organizations, including motion picture studios and television distributors, cable networks and production companies, as well as foreign sales agents. He has a particularly rich practice area focus on content ownership, participation and licensing issues and extensive experience addressing contractual, copyright and trademark claims.
"We are thrilled to welcome Tony," Jenner & Block Managing Partner Terrence J. Truax said. "He will add instant value and bench strength to the CME Practice, particularly in the area of profit participation, which is a strategic growth area for the platform."
Jenner & Block's CME Practice and its lawyers are widely recognized as among the best in the United States and have a rich history of handling some of the industry's most important legal matters of our time. Law360 named the practice among its Practice Groups of the Year in 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2011. In 2014 and 2012, the practice won the Chambers USA "Award for Excellence" in media and entertainment as the country's top industry practice. In 2015, The Legal 500 heralded Jenner & Block as the #1 copyright practice in the United States, marking the third time the firm has received this honor, and noting the practice as "a preeminent choice for copyright litigation"; "widely regarded as one of the elite class" of copyright practices; and with a "looming presence in the entertainment industry" and a client base "dominated by A-list heavyweights in the entertainment field." In addition, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter have recognized our CME lawyers as preeminent in the field.
Every year since 2005, Mr. Basich has been ranked by Chambers USA as a leading media and entertainment litigator. Described by clients as "one of the most important media and entertainment guys in the state," he has been recognized for being "attuned to the strategic business needs of clients."
Mr. Basich's arrival follows that of two other noted practitioners, Partners Benjamin R. Mulcahy and Gina Reif Ilardi, who joined the CME Practice in April. Nationally acclaimed lawyers, Mr. Mulcahy and Ms. Ilardi help media companies and major brands produce and distribute content and structure and negotiate major sports and entertainment marketing deals. Mr. Mulcahy practices in the firm's Los Angeles office and serves as co-chair of the firm's Trademark, Advertising and Unfair Competition Practice, while Ms. Ilardi practices in the New York office.
Mr. Basich comes to Jenner & Block from Hogan Lovells, where he was a partner in that firm's litigation practice focusing on media litigation and counseling.
CME Practice Co-Chair Richard L. Stone said: "I have previously worked with Tony and know both his stellar reputation in the entertainment legal community as well as his unquestionable capabilities and acumen. I am excited to bring him on board to enhance our service offerings while providing both a cultural and strategic fit for our practice and firm."
"I am excited about the opportunity presented at Jenner & Block, with its renowned CME Practice, and to once again work alongside Rick and a number of my other friends and trusted colleagues," Mr. Basich said. "The firm's litigation capabilities offer the right platform for my media and entertainment clients. I am eager to provide my experience handling profit participation and other complex entertainment-related issues in order to expand the capabilities of the CME Practice."
Mr. Basich received his J.D. in 1981 from The George Washington School of Law, where he was a member of The George Washington Law Review. He received a B.S. from Stanford University in 1978.
