(New York) September 21, 2016 — MoloLamken LLP, a premier national litigation boutique, today announced that Jessica Ortiz, an accomplished federal prosecutor who previously led the Narcotics Unit at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, has joined the firm as a partner in its New York office.
Having spent nearly eight years at the U.S. Attorney's Office, Ortiz brings experience in a broad range of complex criminal matters as well as extensive trial experience.
She led 15 jury trials to conviction and has experience with matters related to fraud, computer crimes, corporate embezzlement, public corruption, health care fraud, racketeering and organized crime, narcotics, and murder. In one high-profile case, Ortiz was part of the team that prosecuted more than 75 members and associates of the Bronx Trinitarios Gang. In addition to her trial work, Ortiz briefed and argued cases before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
"Jessica’s hiring is another step in building a world-class litigation firm that clients seek out for complex and cutting-edge matters with high stakes," said firm co-founder Steven Molo. "Jessica exudes competence and confidence, and is a wonderful addition to a talented team that achieves great results for clients."
"With people like Jessica, we've built a firm that consistently goes head-to-head with the most prominent law firms in the business," said firm co-founder Jeffrey Lamken. "Clients value our collaborative style and appreciate our willingness to share risk."
The firm has built a solid track record of success in courtrooms across the country, including the U.S. Supreme Court. Clients have included not only prominent U.S. businesses and individuals, but also foreign executives, companies and sovereigns.
"While MoloLamken is based in the U.S., the firm has built a strong international reputation through work for clients around the world. I hope to enhance that, particularly through building relationships in Latin America based on my experience," said Ortiz, who was recognized in 2016 as one of the Hispanic National Bar Association's Top Lawyers Under 40.
"I was also drawn to their strong reputation as both exceptional thinkers and engaging courtroom advocates. MoloLamken has created a results-oriented culture that's exciting. I look forward to helping the firm build on the great success it has achieved in only six years," Ortiz said.
Benchmark Litigation, in a recent assessment of the firm, quoted a client as saying that MoloLamken has "brilliant lawyers, with courtroom savvy and the best brief writing teams you can find." Case highlights over the past 18 months include:
Securing Victories With a New Model
MoloLamken was formed in October 2009 to focus exclusively on representing clients in complex disputes – business litigation, intellectual property litigation, white collar criminal and regulatory matters, and appeals. The firm has offices in New York, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. It represents clients based throughout the world.
The firm and its lawyers have been consistently ranked highly by such organizations as Chambers and Partners, Lawdragon, Benchmark Litigation, Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers in America, Leading Lawyers, and Vault. The National Law Journal named MoloLamken to its 2016 Litigation Boutique Hot List.
Founding partners Steven Molo and Jeffrey Lamken developed national reputations based on courtroom successes at large full-service firms. The firm's approach is premised on the belief that complex litigation is most effectively handled by smaller teams comprised of smart, highly experienced lawyers focused on results. Rather than the traditional hourly billing method, MoloLamken prefers value-based fee arrangements that provide clients with predictability and reward the firm for results. Its clients include leading corporations, boards, hedge funds, investors, inventors, executives, individuals and sovereigns.
There are four new associates also joining the firm upon completion of prestigious clerkships for federal judges. Ortiz will be the firm’s first female partner. Her addition will mean that women will comprise more than 30 percent of the firm’s attorneys – a percentage that compares quite favorably to other industry leaders.
About Jessica Ortiz
Before joining the U.S. Attorney's Office, Ortiz clerked for the Honorable Julio M. Fuentes of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She began her legal career as an associate in the business securities litigation group at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, LLP, and worked in that firm’s New York and London offices. Before law school, Ortiz was a senior technology security associate for the Global Risk Management Service of PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP.
Ortiz is currently a member of the Lideres Board for LatinoJustice, a civil rights and education organization that she has volunteered with for more than a decade. She previously served on the Minorities in the Courts Committee of the New York City Bar Association, and at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, she received the Pro Bono Service Award.
Ortiz received her J.D. from the University of Buffalo Law School and received her B.S. from Syracuse University.
