December 1, 2016…Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its cybersecurity and national security capabilities with the arrival of Steven Chabinsky as a partner and chair of the Firm's Global Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice.
Chabinsky joins White & Case from CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity company, where he served as Senior Vice President of Legal Affairs, General Counsel and Chief Risk Officer. He was responsible for CrowdStrike’s legal, privacy and risk strategies and advised clients and their counsel on ways to protect their networks from being hacked and to respond effectively in the event of a data breach.
Earlier this year, Chabinsky was appointed by President Obama as one of 12 members of the President’s Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity. He also is the monthly Cyber Tactics columnist for Security magazine.
“A key challenge and issue for companies across sectors and geography is the impact that a third-party infiltration and the theft of client information would have on their businesses,” says White & Case partner Glenn Kurtz, who heads the Firm’s Global Commercial Litigation Practice. “Steve further enhances our ability to advise and create strategies for clients on how to address cyber attacks and the circumstances that arise when critical data is lost or stolen.”
Prior to joining CrowdStrike, Chabinsky was Deputy Assistant Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Cyber Division, after having organized and led its Cyber Intelligence program and after having served as the FBI’s top cyber lawyer. Chabinsky also served as the senior cyber advisor to the US Director of National Intelligence.
“The combination of an increasingly global and interconnected business environment, more frequent national security threats—cyber and otherwise—from state actors, and an increased focus on privacy has created a critical need for clients to obtain expert legal advice on a full range of national security topics, including cybersecurity and data privacy,” says Scott Hershman, White & Case’s Regional Section Head, Americas Disputes. “Steve is uniquely qualified to provide our clients with top-tier advice in this increasingly important area.”
