Corboy & Demetrio Co-Founder Thomas A. Demetrio and Partner Kenneth T. Lumb, who are representing hundreds of consumers in a federal, class-action lawsuit against Equifax, reacted to the resignation of Equifax CEO Richard Smith today:
“Equifax served the personal information of 143 million Americans to thieves on a silver platter and waited six weeks to announce the breach. Then the company waited another three weeks to fire the CEO responsible for its reckless corporate culture – but only because of the public’s outcry,” Demetrio and Lumb said in a joint statement.
Corboy & Demetrio filed the class-action lawsuit on Sept. 14, 2017, on behalf of consumers nationwide whose sensitive personal data was collected and stored by Equifax on servers that were hacked in a massive security breach discovered on July 29, 2017.
The firm has been involved in several recent high-profile cases, including representing airline passenger Dr. David Dao and more than 100 former NFL and NHL players in concussion litigation against both Leagues.
