Judge Randy Wilson, an original partner of Susman Godfrey when the firm was founded in 1980, has returned to the firm as a partner after 15 years of service as a Harris County District Judge. In his 23 years at Susman Godfrey, Wilson tried some of the largest cases in the country and was widely regarded as one of the top trial lawyers in the state. He was Board Certified in Civil Trial Law and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Before Wilson took the bench in 2003, Chambers USA named him one of the Leading Commercial Litigators in America
In 2003, then Texas Governor Perry appointed Wilson to the 157th District Court in Harris County, to which he was re-elected several times and was widely regarded as one of the best judges in the state. Judge Wilson was twice selected as Trial Judge of the Year by the Texas Association of Civil Trial and Appellate Specialists. Lawdragon named him one of the 500 Leading Judges in America. Judge Wilson was appointed to preside over multiple complex multi-district litigation matters and was appointed as a Justice of the Texas Supreme Court to preside over a securities case.
Law firm founder Steve Susman expressed delight at Wilson’s decision to rejoin the firm. “Randy was here from the beginning. He helped me build the firm into what it is today. I am so happy to welcome him home. He was a wonderful judge and is an even better trial lawyer. It will be invaluable to our clients and our young lawyers to have him back here practicing law with us again.
Wilson, who resumed practicing at the firm on January 2, said that he has hit the ground running. “I’m already scheduled to try a huge case this spring. I deeply enjoyed my public service, but am very excited now to be back on the other side of the bench. There is nowhere else I would rather practice law.”
