Two Centuries of the Law: Cravath, Swaine & Moore

March 22 – June 9, 2019 - Established in 1819, the New York law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore has served clients ranging from 19th century inventors to champions of civil rights and civil liberties to pioneers of modern business in periods of both progress and distress. Over two centuries, milestones have included securing patents for the telegraph and sewing machine, organizing NBC for its original shareholders, and establishing equal access to locker rooms for women sports reporters. The firm’s work has helped society and the world advance, shaping American culture and building the large-scale commercial and financial systems that exist today. This installation celebrates Cravath, Swaine & Moore’s extraordinary history, and features select work and notable highlights through a collection of unique documents, photographs, and prints.
