New York, October 31, 2022 – Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP announced today that Eyitayo “Tee” St. Matthew-Daniel will be joining the firm as a partner in the Litigation Department, resident in New York. A former Assistant Chief of the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Antitrust Division in New York, Ms. St. Matthew-Daniel will focus on criminal investigations, merger and non-merger civil investigations, and antitrust litigation by the DOJ, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the European Commission (EC).
“We are delighted to welcome a lawyer of Tee’s talent and expertise to the firm,” said Paul, Weiss Chairman Brad S. Karp. “Her addition further enhances our world-class antitrust litigation capabilities and will greatly benefit our clients at a time when sophisticated antitrust guidance across borders is more important than ever.”
“Tee brings both a high-level background in government enforcement and significant private practice experience, which will enable us to better assist clients in navigating different competition enforcement regimes,” said Litigation Department Co-Chair Kenneth A. Gallo.
Ms. St. Matthew-Daniel’s experience spans a wide range of antitrust matters, from civil and criminal antitrust litigation to merger and non-merger investigations by U.S. antitrust agencies and the EC. She has counseled clients across diverse industries, including financial services, energy, technology and media, manufacturing and transportation. During Ms. St. Matthew-Daniel’s nearly 10 years in private practice, she handled a wide variety of antitrust disputes, including matters alleging price fixing, predatory pricing and monopolization; she also has experience managing complex multijurisdictional matters.
“I am thrilled to be joining Paul, Weiss, a firm I have long admired, and home to one of the nation’s leading antitrust practices,” said Ms. St. Matthew-Daniel. “I look forward to working with my new colleagues and helping clients navigate heightened antitrust scrutiny and enforcement, both in the U.S. and internationally.”
While Assistant Chief of the DOJ’s Antitrust Division in New York, Ms. St. Matthew-Daniel supervised and prosecuted criminal antitrust cases, including collusion in public procurement in U.S. v. G4S Secure Solutions NV and collusion in labor markets in U.S. v. Manahe et al. In 2020, she served as Acting Director of the Division’s Procurement Collusion Strike Force, and in 2019, as counsel to the Division’s Assistant Attorney General. Earlier, she served as a trial attorney in the Washington Criminal II Section of the Antitrust Division (2015-2019), leading criminal investigations in parallel with civil conduct investigations by the Division, the FTC and the state Attorneys General; among others, she negotiated a deferred prosecution agreement and $100 million penalty related to noncompete provisions in employment contracts in one of the few criminal antitrust enforcement actions ever brought against a healthcare provider.
Ms. St. Matthew-Daniel serves as co-chair of the Cartel and Criminal Practice Committee of the New York State Bar Association’s Antitrust Section. She earned a B.A., with first class honors, from the University of Cambridge and an LL.M. from Harvard Law School, where she was a Cambridge/Harvard Law Link Scholar.
