ATLANTA, Jan. 7 -- The global law firm Jones Day has announced that Peter C. Canfield, a prominent civil litigator, has joined the Firm's Atlanta Office as a partner in the Business and Tort Litigation Practice. He was previously a partner in Dow Lohnes, LLP's Atlanta office.

Mr. Canfield has represented corporations, universities, and professional firms in a wide variety of general civil disputes, including shareholder derivative actions, contract disputes, and non-compete litigation. With his media and publishing industries focus, Mr. Canfield is a preeminent First Amendment authority with extensive experience defending libel, defamation and invasion of privacy claims, counseling authors and publishers, securing access to information, and safeguarding distribution and intellectual property rights.
A graduate of Yale Law School (J.D., 1979) and Amherst College (B.A., 1976), Mr. Canfield clerked for the Hon. Frank M. Johnson, Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Hon. Myron H. Thompson of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama. Listed since 1993 by Best Lawyers of America and ranked in Chambers USA for First Amendment litigation, he lectures widely on media law issues.
