Freeborn Expands IP Litigation Practice

CHICAGO – Jan. 10, 2014 – Chicago-based law firm Freeborn & Peters LLP has recruited two new partners to its IP Litigation Practice Group. Edward H. Rice andMarina N. Saito both focus their practices on patent litigation and have extensive trial experience.

“The depth of Ed and Marina’s trial experience sets them apart from many of their peers in the intellectual property space,” said Joseph Fogel, team leader of the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Group. “We are pleased to have them on board and look forward to their contributions to our clients and the firm.”

Both attorneys were formerly partners at Loeb & Loeb LLP before opening their own practice, Hopenfeld Singer Rice & Saito LLP.

ABOUT EDWARD H. RICE:

Edward H. Rice is a trial and appellate lawyer who, since 1988, has focused primarily on patent cases and other technology disputes. He has first-chaired and won trials in every patent litigation venue in the country: federal district courts, the International Trade Commission and the Court of Federal Claims. Ed launched his appellate career in 1992, when he won a difficult en banc Federal Circuit argument in a trade secret case. Over his career, Ed has handled a wide range of patented technologies – including integrated circuits, pharmaceuticals, Internet business methods, anti-missile systems and just about everything in between. He also has successfully represented clients on trademark and copyright matters, once representing several well-known Hollywood figures in a copyright jury trial involving a blockbuster movie.

Ed received his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan.

ABOUT MARINA N. SAITO:

Marina N. Saito is a trial lawyer who focuses primarily on intellectual property litigation. As a former patent prosecutor with technical degrees in computer science and biology, as well as an advanced degree in electrical engineering, Marina provides in-depth analyses on a wide-range of technologies. She has handled cases involving everything from semiconductor fabrication to wireless telecommunications to growth-factor neutralizing antibodies. Marina’s ability to integrate her technology experience with rigorous legal analysis has led to trial victories in federal district court and the International Trade Commission.

Marina received her Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law/Illinois Institute of Technology. She also holds a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering and dual Bachelor of Science degrees in computer science and biology from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
