Trio of IP Partners Joins Jones Day

Washington, D.C. -- January 27, 2016 -- The global law firm Jones Day today announced that three intellectual property partners have joined the Firm's Global Intellectual Property Practice. M. Andrew Woodmansee and Cary Miller, Ph.D., who most recently were partners with Morrison & Foerster, join Jones Day’s San Diego office; Pablo D. Hendler, who arrives from Ropes & Gray, joins Jones Day’s New York office.

Mr. Woodmansee, who was most recently head of the Litigation Department in Morrison & Foerster’s San Diego office, is a nationally known patent litigator with 20 years of experience. He has represented clients in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device and telecommunications industries in federal courts throughout the U.S., including companies such as Hologic Gen-Probe, Dexcom, Palm, Kyocera, EchoStar Communications/DISH Network, and Charter Communications. Mr. Woodmansee has tried cases to verdict for life sciences clients in both bench and jury trials, and he has successfully handled Section 337 investigations before the U.S. International Trade Commission. Mr. Woodmansee recently served a four year term as a Lawyer Representative to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, has served as a faculty member for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, and has lectured on patent law at the University of San Diego Law School. Mr. Woodmansee received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and earned his J.D. from Notre Dame Law School.

Dr. Miller has been representing clients in the biotechnological and pharmaceutical industries for more than 13 years.  Her experience is in the areas of creating strategic patent portfolios, advising on pre-litigation patent infringement and validity issues, USPTO post-grant proceedings and patent litigation. She has experience in both Hatch-Waxman and Biosimilars litigation. Best Lawyers named Dr. Miller the “San Diego Biotechnology Law Lawyer of the Year” for 2013, an honor given to a single lawyer in the metropolitan area. Before receiving her J.D. from Columbia Law School, Dr. Miller received her Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, where her primary area of research was in cellular, developmental and molecular biology, and her undergraduate degree in life sciences from Queen’s University in Canada.

Mr. Hendler has significant experience representing some of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies in Hatch-Waxman patent litigation, including Purdue Pharma and Astrazenca.  Jones Day's Life Sciences patent litigation practice counts among its many clients Abbvie, Biomarin, Celgene and Purdue, and Pablo's addition further strengthens the Firm's New York Hatch Waxman Practice.  Mr. Hendler offers a unique combination of skills as a chemical engineer, inventor and attorney with more than 20 years of experience handling patent infringement matters -- most of which have been primarily focused on pharmaceutical and medical device litigation. His litigation experience includes serving as lead counsel on major pharmaceutical products including at preliminary injunction proceedings, trials and appeals. Mr. Hendler earned his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from The University of Michigan and his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.
