NEW YORK, 20 January 2016 – Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce that Michael Dougherty and Tony Pezzano have joined the firm’s New York office as partners in the Intellectual Property Media and Technology (IPMT) Practice Group.

Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, Dougherty and Pezzano were partners at King & Spalding, where they focused on patent litigation cases in both Federal District Courts throughout the United States and the International Trade Commission (ITC). They represent clients in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology space, with an emphasis in the representation of pharmaceutical companies in suits against generic drug companies under the Hatch-Waxman Act. Pezzano also has extensive patent litigation experience in a wide variety of areas, including technology where he has focused on computer software, hardware and wireless technologies, among others.

Dougherty and Pezzano join the firm’s network of more than 350 life sciences lawyers and specialists operating in 17 jurisdictions across the United States, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

“Michael and Tony’s experience with Hatch-Waxman focused patent litigation will strengthen our capabilities to meet our life sciences clients' growing needs,” said Celine Crowson, head of the Americas IPMT practice of Hogan Lovells. “They will be a strong addition to our team.”

Outside of his practice, Pezzano previously served as President of the ITC Trial Lawyers Association and is an annual member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the New York Intellectual Property Law Association.

Dougherty has published on pharmaceutical and biotechnology issues in publications such as the Food and Drug Law Journal, and has served on the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Issues committee of the Intellectual Property Owners Association.

“Given Tony and Michael’s well-known reputations in the region, we are excited for them to join our team and expand our bandwidth in the office, particularly in the life sciences and technology arenas,” said Oliver Armas, Managing Partner of the Hogan Lovells New York office.

Dougherty received his J.D. from Marshall-Wythe School of Law, College of William & Mary, and his B.A. from Case Western Reserve University.

Pezzano earned his J.D. from the Hofstra University School of Law and his B.S. in Engineering Mechanics from Columbia University.
